What is this Blue Bracelet thing?

The Blue Bracelet Project is an idea that came to me late one night after downing a glass of wine (or 2) and watching our elected leaders in Congress and our Department of Justice try to justify the imprisonment of fellow human beings seeking asylum.  And not only that, but taking their children away from them just because they wanted to deter others asylum seekers from doing the same.  I just could not believe it!  My beloved country-- "bring us your tired, your poor, your yearning to breathe free" country was kidnapping and imprisoning children and families IN MY NAME!  I was both infuriated, ashamed and unbelievably saddened.  I kept thinking, "What if it was me?  And my girls?  And they took my girls away for no reason and put me in prison not knowing what was going to happen to them?"  I just could not stop crying...

After another glass of wine, I then watched my beloved Stephanie Miller Show (DVR--cuz it was really late by now) and Frangela was on.  (If you don't know who they are, now is the time to Google).  Angela, of Frangela, kept saying "Call your Congressman!  Call your Representatives!" over and over.  And I vowed to do so--only I did not have the number!

I needed to do something...

But, I am also a working gal.  And by working, I mean WORKING.  I am in the food service industry so my hours are long and many.  I wanted to DO something, but what could I do after 11 p.m. daily and not on weekends?

I was so upset at the actions of our government I was compelled to say something.  I hunted down the number of the U.S. Capitol switchboard and made my first call.  I was surprised at how efficient the process was and that at the end of my selections I actually spoke with a real, live human being.  One who engaged in a meaningful conversation with me and promised that my Senator was listening and would get my message.

I was inspired.

I know there are a lot of folks just like me out there that are working their tails off trying to keep it together, who want to do something but don't have the money and don't have extra time during "normal people hours."

What could I do?

Thus, the genesis of the Blue Bracelet Project.  I have a voice.  You have a voice.  We are not powerless like some want us to believe.  It is not too late to save this democracy.
